HOMELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Central Florida authorities say a 14-year-old was behind the wheel in a multi-vehicle crash that killed her mother and 8-year-old sister.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office says the teen was driving Monday afternoon through Homeland when she turned into the path of a van. Both vehicles then hit another car.
The sheriff's office says the teen's sister died at the scene. The girls' 42-year-old mother was pronounced dead at a hospital. The teen was hospitalized in stable but critical condition.
Authorities say an elderly couple in the van suffered minor injuries. The driver of the other car also suffered minor injuries.
