Three women and three men of a Bay County jury convicted a Colorado man Wednesday of capital sexual battery.
Assistant State Attorney Kevin Barr told jurors in his opening statement that it was appropriate that this trial was happening so close to Halloween since jurors would hear a “real life horror story.” He told them that Ruben Martinez, 54, of Walsenburg, Colo., visited Panama City Beach in November 2011, and while here he molested an 11yearold girl.
Barr also brought forth additional witnesses who said Martinez had done the same to them over the years.
Martinez was found guilty as charged of sexual battery on a child younger than 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation.
The sexual battery charge carries a mandatory sentence of life in
prison. Circuit Judge James Fensom scheduled sentencing for Nov. 21.
