CORAL SPRINGS, Florida - A Walton County doctor who faked his own death while awaiting retrial has been captured in Coral Springs.
Dr. Robert Ignasiak, 58, was located and arrested Tuesday after a resident called police about a suspicious person.
The Coral Springs Police Department took Ignasiak into custody for an active federal warrant for violation of pre-trial release.
Police say Ignasiak stated several times he wanted officers to shoot
him in the head.
Ignasiak was found guilty in 2008 of giving prescription painkillers to patients who didn't really need it. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison, but the case was overturned in May 2012.
Before the start of Ignasiak's second trial, he faked his own death and took off. He was reported missing to the Walton County Sheriff’s on November 3rd. Blood stains and a suicide note were found in his car.
Ignasiak is currently in the Broward County Jail awaiting extradition.
