This Friday, August 10th, marks the ten year anniversary of a deadly, unsolved hit and run in Destin. One decade ago, someone hit and killed 15-year old Shelly Meadors as she and friends stood on a sidewalk along Highway 98 in Destin. Investigators with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Shelly’s family are again asking the public for help finding the person responsible for this crime.
Shelly’s mother, Belinda Meadors, will hold a news conference on Thursday, August 9th at 11 a.m. at the spot where Shelly was struck. It is alongside East Highway 98, directly across the street from a gas station located next to Big Kahuna’s.
For more information, contact Belinda Meadors at 502-727-7704.
Meantime the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is transferring the case from its Traffic Homicide Unit to the agency’s Criminal Investigations Division. CID Investigators have had recent success with several cold cases and would like to encourage anyone with information on the Meadors case to contact the agency at 850-651-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS. The OCSO is also producing a Shelly Meadors Cold Case Chronicle video for distribution. It will be available later this week on the OCSO YouTube page.
