The Walton Correctional Institute (WCI) k-9 team discovered a marijuana patch on Wednesday, during a training exercise in the area of Fish or Cut Bait Road in DeFuniak Springs.
Upon further investigation, the sheriff’s office and the Vice/Narcotics Unit secured a search warrant for the property. 57 plants were discovered by the K-9 teams, in addition to one pound of dried marijuana ready for ingestion inside the residence on the property. Quinn Ray Barton, 63, the primary resident at the home, was arrested along with Derl Richard Land, 52, also of DeFuniak Springs.
Barton was charged with cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana more than 20-grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Land was charged with cultivating marijuana. They were both transported to the Walton County Department of corrections.
