CRESTVIEW, Fla. (AP) -- A Panhandle soldier and his fiancée face charges of child abuse and neglect in the death of the man's 2-year-old son.

The Northwest Florida Daily News reported that 27-year-old Army Sgt. Grant Sherwin and his fiancée, 26-year-old Nichole Marie Allen, were arrested late Thursday after Sherwin's son was found dead by emergency responders.

The boy's twin sister was taken into protective custody.

According to investigators, emergency crews went to the home Wednesday evening after the couple called 911. Emergency workers told police that they found 2-year-old Logan malnourished and with numerous bruises on his body.

Jail records show that both Sherwin and Allen remained in custody on Friday. Neither had an attorney listed.

Sherwin is a supply sergeant with the Army 7th Special Forces Group.

Why have children if you don't want them. If you have kids and they are in the way, give them away. There is No shame to say I can't take care of them anymore, don't abuse them, don't let them go without food.Give them to family members, don't give them to strangers { people on the streets or people who you don't know anything about } Give them to DCF. It is better to give them away than to let them starve.2012 is tomarrow, I hope and pray it is better than 2011.I hope people will see that throwing your life away will not solve anything. I hope that 2012 is blessed by God.
