County Prohibits Feral Feline Feeding, Shelter

BARTOW, Fla. (AP) -- Polk County officials are telling a feral
cat organization to stop feeding and sheltering cat colony at a
local park.

The Ledger reports that members of the Feral Fanciers group have installed a series of shelters for cats at Saddle Creek Park after trapping, neutering and returning the animals to the park. The group also feeds the cats.

County officials told Feral Fanciers that sheltering and feeding the felines are in violation of county ordinances. Feral Fanciers President Dina Raymond says the group has no alternative location to take the cats.

The park is also a stopover point for migrating and wintering songbirds that are potential prey for feral cats -- a point that concerns local bird lovers.
