High school students from the panhandle area participated in STEM events at Chipola College earlier today.
Today's event included a contest involving students in Florida’s rural school districts. All students were challenged to work together through a team building engineering exercise. PAEC officials say that programs like this motivate and inspire students to choose a career in a stem related field.
"Today there are seven high schools here so we try to mix them up so there are not working with their buddies and so they have to learn to communicate. You see who the leader is, they have to work together and they have to focus on what the question is which is how do we adapt this?
And they don't know beforehand so their having to think on their feet,” said Caren Prichard, a PAEC STEM Scholars Consultant.
Chipola College also provided lunch for all students participating.
