On July 9 at approximately 8:11 p.m. the Chipley Police Department was dispatched to a Bowen Avenue home in reference to a stabbing.
Once officers arrived at the residence, officers discovered Stephanie Jackson, 40, lying on the floor in the living room in a large pool of blood. Officers also located Dwight Murphy, 25, of Marianna with several stab wounds.
Both victims were transported by Washington County EMS to the North West Florida Community Hospital where Jackson and Murphy were later air lifted to Bay Medical Center.
Shaun Reed, 45, of Chipley, was immediately identified as the suspect in the double stabbing. Based on victim statements and eye witness accounts it is believed that Reed barged into the home and the altercation began leading Reed to stabbing both victims multiple times. It is believed that Jackson was an ex-girlfriend to Reed.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s mobile crime scene lab responded from Pensacola and assisted in processing the crime scene. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement also assisted in the investigation. All departments assisted in the search for Reed by the North West Florida Reception Center k-9 Tracking Team and the Holmes County Corrections K-9 Tracking Team.
At approximately 3:24 a.m. Reed was taken into custody without incident. Reed was found in a vacant home across the street from where he lives. Reed was able to be tracked due to the loss of his own blood. The home was surrounded by the Washington County Swat Team where they later breached the home taking reed into custody.
Reed had severe cuts to his hands leaving a trail of blood. Reed was transported to the hospital where he was treated for the cuts on his hands. Reed was booked into the Washington County Jail on two counts of attempted murder.
The investigation continues and more charges are pending. Both victims remain in critical, but stable condition.
