When NASA returned Susan Harris' call, she was surprised.
She'd been trying to launch an interactive summer program for area kids.
Harris said, “We didn't know if it would happen all they can do is say no we've been told that many times with things we've tried to get in here for our children.”
This year was a go. NASA was eager to work with the director of the Holmes County Public Library
Harris was eager to get to work.
So the two came together and made a connection....on Skype.
NASA also sent part of the astronauts gear for the kids to try on.
Teachers say learning from a textbook doesn't always do the trick.
Sharon Palmer said, “They don't see an astronaut they don't talk to an astronaut so they see the hard work and how that benefits them.”
Benefiting them so they can blast off and reach for the stars.
