NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) -- Allegiant Air is about to begin service between Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Punta Gorda, Fla.
The first flight departs from Niagara Falls International Airport Friday evening.
The new route fills a void left when Direct Air suddenly ended service from the Falls to the southwest Florida coast earlier this year.
Allegiant says one-way fares will start at $93.99 and that hotel and air packages will be available as well.
The air carrier is a unit of Allegiant Travel Co.
It specializes in carrying passengers from smaller markets to resort destinations.
Allegiant also has nonstop service from Niagara Falls to three other Florida locations: Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and St. Petersburg-Clearwater.
