Agriculture Secretary Asks for Help for Farmers

What started as a serious problem a few months ago is now a nightmare for the agriculture industry.

More than half the country is dealing with moderate or extreme drought conditions, and no one will feel the impact more than farmers.

Wednesday, agriculture secretary Tom Vilsak asked for help.

"The most important thing is for Congress to take some kind of action to provide some direction and assistance, so folks know what's going to happen and what protection they're going to have."

In the meantime, those with something still salvageable need a little help from above. Many have already surrendered and are plowing their fields.

Many will rely on insurance and government assistance to hold them over until next year.
