A South Florida woman jumped into action and saved her dog, after seeing a coyote attack and kill her other dog.
And this is not the first animal this coyote has killed.
Cinnamon was the smaller of two dogs owned by Mary Ann Ricardez… But the 7 year old Chihuahua was the boss.
However the defenseless dog was no match for a coyote that attacked her in the backyard of a Parkland home on July 15.
Ricardez says she was just a few feet away when she watched a coyote crouch down and strike, carrying her beloved Cinnamon into the woods.
Ricardez said, “The coyote was just too quick…and I knew before she got to the woods that she was dead because there was no more squealing, no more sound from her.”
Ricardez screamed for her bigger dog -- Cocoa -- to chase the coyote, but the coyote vanished.
She said, “I wanted to protect my other dog too…I held it together to get him back to the house and then that was it.”
Ricardez' son Jorge searched for Cinnamon and found her mangled body in a clearing.
Jorge recovered Cinnamon's collar and soon learned of at least one other coyote attack in the Parkland area.
The city even posted a warning about coyotes on its website.
This family says they are telling Cinnamon's story so that other families do not experience the grief they feel over the loss of their pet.
Ricardez said, “Right now it's an animal we're talking about. I'm just afraid what is the next step? A kid? What is going to take for somebody to start doing something? What does it take?”
