Red Sox fan charged with assault

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Boston Red Sox fan attacked a Tampa Bay Rays fan after a May 2 baseball game.

St. Petersburg police say 30-year-old Joseph Michael Norton, the Red Sox fan, was arrested Friday.

Police say Norton and 19-year-old John Thaddeus Ritter, the Rays fan, exchanged words while walking down an outside ramp at Tropicana Field after the game. Police say Norton ran up behind Ritter and punched him in the back of the head, causing Ritter to fall down and hit his head on the pavement. Ritter was taken to a hospital with a concussion.

Norton has been charged with aggravated battery. He was being held on $75,000 bail.
