11 hurt in pleasure boat explosion in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Gary Morse of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says 11 people were aboard a 33-foot, twin-engine boat when it exploded Saturday afternoon while anchored in three feet of water off what's known as Beer Can Island.

Morse says six people were taken by helicopter to Tampa General
Hospital. Five other children were treated and released from the
hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation. Morse says
the boat was owned by George Meyer, who was on the boat with
extended family members when the explosion happened. Morse declined to say if Meyer was injured.
