SPRING HILL, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa Bay home has been nearly
entirely swallowed by a sinkhole.
The nearly 15-foot-deep sinkhole opened under the home of Jim
and Joan Bates in Spring Hill on Wednesday afternoon and the garage
and front of the ranch was devoured.
The couple had heard creaks throughout their home for months and
had seen cracks form in the walls and floors, so they hired an
engineer and contractor to fix any sinkhole activity. But a fix didn't come quick enough.
Owner Jim Bates says he's thankful no one was inside when it happened.
