Black bear spotted in Lee County

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Residents in Lee County have a new neighbor: a black bear.

Biologist Mike Orlando with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Monday residents are feeding the bear. There may be more than one bear in the area, so wildlife officials warn residents to be on alert.

The sightings have occurred south of Fort Myers and the Lehigh Acres area. Residents have reported seeing the bear in trash bins.

Wildlife officials plan to trap the bear and relocate him to an undisclosed location.

Biologists believe the bear is a young male.
