UF president warns 'worst case scenario' looms

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - At a meeting Thursday of the Faculty Senate, Machen said a 10 percent cut could cost the university $73 million. That could mean 73 faculty layoffs, 306 staff layoffs and 748 positions eliminated.

Also proposed are cutting several programs including scuba,
athletic training, the documentary film institute, geological
sciences and religion.

Machen says if one-time stimulus dollars are used, it could cause a financial crisis in following years.

The Legislature is still debating budget cuts.
