TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - University of Florida officials say a student studying in southern Africa is missing after getting caught in a river's strong current.
Thad Hammon Owens is part of the university's three-month wildlife ecology program in Namibia. UF spokesman Steve Orlando says the 27-year-old hasn't been seen since Thursday when he tried to swim across the Kunene River. The waters are filled with crocodiles so officials fear for Owens' safety.
African officials, the U.S. Embassy, local villagers and private search-and-rescue teams have all been searching for the wildlife ecology major.
