MASCOTTE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities have apprehended an inmate who
escaped from his work squad at a central Florida prison.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, police spotted 41-year-old Michael Howarth walking Wednesday night along a
Howarth initially gave a false name but then admitted he had escaped early Tuesday from the Lake Correctional Institution, 12 miles away.
Howarth had been working at the prison's water-treatment plant
outside a security fence.
His mother says Howarth told her in June that "he had just had
enough of being in prison."
Howarth had served 17 years in prison for burglary and grand
He had three years remaining on his sentence.
A Florida Department of Corrections spokeswoman says Howarth
will likely be moved to another prison.
