TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Get sentenced to wear an ankle bracelet
in Florida and you may wind up paying the cost of monitoring the device: up to $3,200 a year.
Lawmakers on Tuesday considered whether to have offenders pay for the monitoring under a bill backed by the state's Department of
Corrections.
Most people currently sentenced to wear an electronic bracelet have one that costs the state $8.94 a day.
Last year, the monitoring of more than 2,300 people cost the state upward of $5 million. Most of the people being monitored are sex offenders.
