STUART, Fla. (AP) - Authorities are fighting a 90-acre brush fire in Martin County that has already forced the evacuation of a Stuart elementary school.
The fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and quickly spread.
Authorities say roughly 100 homes have been evacuated, and 18 houses are threatened.
Students at Felix Williams Elementary School were bused away soon after the fire erupted.
Florida Division of Forestry official Melissa Yunas says the blaze was 90 acres at midday and 30 percent contained.
Yunas says no homes had been burned, but the fire could continue to grow.
Winds are high and the grass in the area and all over Florida's Atlantic Coast is dry from ongoing drought.
