ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - An Orange County man will spend about a
decade in prison for causing a fatal crash that killed three
teenagers in a street race.
Michael Vance Spain was sentenced Thursday to ten years in
prison followed by 20 years of probation.
The 20-year-old could be released in eight years on good behavior. His drivers license was suspended for life.
Spain was 18 when he was driving his Camaro on Aug. 14, 2007. He
challenged the driver next to him and sped off.
Seconds later, Spain's passengers were killed and a Kissimmee man on his way home from work suffered permanent injuries in the crash.
At court Thursday, Spain apologized to the victims' families.
They said they wanted the court to use Spain to wake up other young
people to the dangers of street racing.
