MIAMI (AP) - A lawyer representing a former Florida fugitive who
spent more than 30 years on the run says his client will be released from the Dade Correctional Institution at the end of the month.
Jack Hazen, who is also known as Charlie Free, was 29 when he fled a prison work program in 1976. He was arrested in his Las Vegas home in January 2008 at the age of 61.
Hazen had married and raised his children in Las Vegas.
His family didn't know about his double life until police visited their
Nevada home after a Florida Department of Corrections investigation.
Hazen had completed about 10 months of a seven-year prison
sentence before he fled the work program.
He is currently serving the rest of his sentence and additional time for escape charges.
