1 dead, 1 injured in small plane crash

LIVE OAK, Fla. (AP) - Suwannee County authorities say one person died and another person was critically injured in a small plane crash.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ron Colvin says the experimental aircraft clipped a tree Tuesday afternoon while approaching a pasture, causing it to burst into flames.

It was not clear if the pilot was trying to land.

Authorities identified the pilot as 68-year-old Jimmy Burkholder, who survived but was taken to the hospital with burns and other injuries. His passenger, 58-year-old Linda Sturtevant, was killed in the crash.

The plane took off from the Little River Airpark south of Live Oak where Burkholder lives.

No further information has been released.
