Authorities search for escaped inmate in North Florida

QUINCY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities are searching for an inmate described as a violent offender who escaped from the Gadsden County Jail.

Lt. Jim Corder of the sheriff's office says Ray Jones Jr. somehow got out of a jail transport van shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday. He was last seen wearing handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit.

He was being held on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Authorities are advising residents of downtown Quincy to keep their doors and windows locked.
