JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Two Yulee High School students will be in federal court seeking a preliminary injunction which will allow them to start a Gay-Straight Alliance club on their north Florida campus.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed the suit last month on behalf of Yulee High School students Hannah Page and Jacob Brock against the Nassau County School Board.
The students were denied permission to start the school club designed to promote tolerance.
A federal judge will hear arguments Thursday on a request for preliminary injunction to allow the club to meet while the case makes it way to trial.
School superintendent John L. Ruis says the club highlighting sexual orientation is a violation of school board policy.
