Body found in wooded area may be missing Gulf County woman

A badly decomposed body was found Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area at the intersection of North Park and Avenue A, in Port St. Joe.

Investigators have not identified the body; however, there are strong indications that it could be the body of Mary Louise Thomas, a woman who went missing several weeks ago.

Gulf County Sheriff Investigators and Port St. Joe Police investigators were driving by residences of whom they believe Thomas may have lived at, at, when they saw a man in a truck drive by. They stopped the man, thinking it was Louise’s brother, and it turns out, it wasn’t.

However, upon questioning, the man told officials, a few days ago, he saw buzzards flying around in a wooded area, and didn’t think anything of it.

He directed officials to the area, and that’s when they discovered a badly decomposed, body.

WJHG reports that the body appeared to be a dark skinned, thin in nature, and there was plastic underneath the head. The woman was also wearing a silver watch.

The States Attorneys Office Investigators, FDLE, Gulf Co. Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiners office are on the scene.
