An early morning crash leaves one woman dead and another in critical condition.
At approximately 12:39 Monday morning, 43-year-old Katherine L. Carter of Santa Rosa Beach was traveling southbound on East Hewitt Road and approached the stop intersection of U.S. 98. Carter failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection and crossed U.S. 98.
Carter, then lost control of her vehicle and left the paved portion of U.S. 98 and entered onto the south shoulder. While on the south shoulder, Carter’s vehicle struck an embankment and flipped over onto its roof.
Walton County EMS responded to the accident and found Carter dead at the scene. The passenger, 49-year-old Cecil Armond Carter, also of Santa Rosa Beach is in critical condition at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Florida Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation to determine if alcohol played a role in this accident.
