Bay County man killed in experimental helicopter crash

An man was found dead late Monday morning next to his crashed experimental helicopter in the Sandy Creek Air Park community.

Investigators believe his death to be accidental.

The pilot was identified as 83-year-old Jack Raulin Hopson. Bay County Sheriff's investigators believe the man just recently purchased the experimental helicopter and was renting hangar space at Sandy Creek.

They say it's hard to know exactly how the accident happened since there were no witnesses.

It appears Hopson was coming out of a small hanger at Sandy Creek when the helicopter apparently made a loop back and crashed into a wall.

He died soon afterwards at the scene.
