Jackson County man dies after being struck by truck

A man is dead after a freak-accident in the Cypress Community.

On Thursday, a 1992 Chevy Pickup became temporarily stuck in a ditch in Jackson County, westbound on Old Spanish Trail Road and Main Street.

The passenger, 53-year-old Larry Stephens of Cypress, got out of the truck in an effort to aid the driver, 48-year-old Dora Mae Stephens, in getting the truck out of the ditch.

During Larry’s efforts in getting the truck out of the ditch, the truck subsequently backed over him.

Before the vehicle came to a stop, the driver, Dora Mae, exited the vehicle and was also struck, resulting in serious injuries. The truck then backed into the ditch and came to its final rest location facing south on the north side of Old Spanish Trail Road near the intersection of Main Street.

Both Dora Mae and Larry were taken to the Jackson County Hospital.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Larry Stephens was pronounced dead on Thursday at 7:17 a.m.
