Race Issues Halt Jury Selection in Terror Case

MIAMI (AP) - A federal judge has halted jury selection over
racial issues in the third trial of a group accused of plotting to
destroy Chicago's Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices.

The jury was to be finalized Wednesday. But defense attorneys for the six black defendants objected that blacks were being wrongly excluded and sought to have the process start over. The judge will have to decide how to proceed next week.

Two previous trials of the "Liberty City Six" have ended in mistrials, with a seventh man acquitted. Prosecutors say they sought to ignite an anti-government war by staging terror attacks.

Alleged ringleader Narseal Batiste testified he was faking interest in terrorism to get money from an FBI informant posing as an al-Qaida operative.
