SANFORD, Fla. (AP) - A woman accused of stealing a newborn from
a central Florida hospital pleaded guilty before attorneys could
make opening statements at her trial.
Jennifer Latham faced a sentence of nine years to life if she
was convicted of kidnapping and burglary charges. Public defender
Tim Caudill said Tuesday that Latham did not make a plea deal with
Caudill says Latham's sentencing is set for March 4. A
spokeswoman for the state attorney's office says prosecutors will
seek a life sentence for Latham.
Authorities say Latham posed as a hospital employee when she
took a baby boy from the maternity ward at Central Florida Regional
Hospital in March. The day-old child was later found unharmed in
