Man survives gator attack in South Florida

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a man who was dragged
into a South Florida lake by an alligator was able to escape, but
severely injured his hand.

The alligator lunged at Raymundo Velasco on Tuesday afternoon,
pulling him down in the water. Officials said Velasco was
hospitalized Tuesday night with injuries that weren't life
threatening.

Gabriella Ferraro, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, said Tuesday's incident was the first alligator attack in Florida this year. There were four alligator attacks in Florida during 2008.
