Ex-FBI agent in Fla. court to void conviction

BOSTON (AP) - Former Boston FBI agent John Connolly Jr. is
scheduled to appear in a Florida court to ask a judge to overturn
his murder conviction.

Connolly was convicted earlier this month of second-degree
murder for leaking information to FBI informants James "Whitey"
Bulger and Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi that led to the slaying
of gambling executive John Callahan. He was sentenced to 40 years
in prison.

The Boston Globe reports that Connolly's defense is expected
Monday to ask the judge to overturn the conviction because the
statute of limitations for second-degree murder had expired.

The judge previously ruled that because a gun was used, the
statute did not apply.

Connolly is also expected to ask a judge to appoint a public
defender to represent him on appeal.
