MAYPORT, Fla. (AP) - The search for a missing kayaker in north
Florida is over, after the man's wife contacted authorities and
reported that he was alive and well.
The Coast Guard launched the search in the St. Johns River near
Jacksonville after locating an empty kayak, and crews spent several
hours Sunday searching the cold waters.
Coast Guard search and rescue coordinator Tom Wells says the man
overturned his kayak, swam to shore, got in his car and went home.
Wells said a life preserver saved the man's life.
A member of the Coast Guard saw a kayaker fishing Sunday
afternoon and later spotted the same yellow kayak overturned,
prompting the search.
