TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A grand jury in Tampa has indicted a man on
charges of fatally shooting a bald eagle.
The U.S. Attorney's Office announced the indictment Friday of
32-year-old Jesse Tyrone Barresse of Hudson. If convicted, Barresse
faces one year in prison and a $5,000 fine. Killing a bald eagle is
a violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
Barresse had his initial court appearance Friday afternoon.
Magistrate Judge Thomas G. Wilson set a $20,000 bond. It was not
immediately known Baressee he had an attorney.
According to the indictment, Barresse knowingly shot the bald
eagle in Ruskin on Tuesday. The case was investigated by the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service.
