CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - A suspected drug dealer who caused a fatal crash while fleeing Pinellas Park police has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.
A circuit judge handed down the sentence Friday after 20-year-old Devonta Merriex pleaded guilty to several charges, including third-degree murder.
Police say undercover detectives bought crack cocaine from a man riding with Merriex in July. When police tried to make an arrest, Merriex sped off and crashed into 32-year-old Nachenga Robinson's car.
The mother of three was killed in the crash.
