Florida Authorities Look for Drunk Drivers on New Year's Eve

State and local law enforcement will be placing all available personnel on the road looking for impaired drivers.

The Florida Highway Patrol will be out in force this New Year’s eve. Law enforcement is expecting to see a large contingent of Wiregrass residents heading to the Gulf Coast.

Pier Park will hold a Time Square style beach ball drop and several of the Panama City Beach super clubs will hold large celebrations.

"We ask everyone to obey traffic laws, and really all Florida laws. If you obey the laws then you won't have a problem and you'll have a great time. But if not, you have to answer to us," says Chief William Watford of Cottondale Police Department.

In Florida, a first time D.U.I. arrest carries fines and legal expenses of more than $200.
