A new report says hate crimes declined in Florida last year to their lowest level in nine years.

Florida recorded 193 hate crimes in 2007, according to the annual report released Monday by Attorney General Bill McCollum.

That's down by 66 cases, or 25 percent, from 2006. It's the lowest number since 1998 when 203 hate crimes were reported.

The state has been tracking hate crimes since 1990. They peaked in 1992 with 395 cases and bottomed out at 160 in 1997.

The reports says 54 percent of last year's hate crimes were motivated by race, 17 percent by ethnicity or national origin and
14.5 percent each by religion and sexual orientation.
