Speaker Says No Wrongdoing in School's Funding

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - House Speaker Ray Sansom says there was total transparency when he put $25.5 million into the budget for
Northwest Florida State College - the school that also employs him.

Sansom told his hometown newspaper in Fort Walton Beach that the
project at the Niceville campus was on a list with the 11 other
projects funded last year on the recommendation of the state's
Department of Education.

However, the speaker did not return messages left Monday and
Tuesday by The Associated Press for comment after House Democratic
leader Franklin Sands asked Sansom to explain how he got a $110,000
job at the school after steering money its way last year.

Sansom also noted that Gov. Charlie Crist could have vetoed the project.
