TAVARES, Fla. (AP) - One central Florida substitute teacher was
able to spot a teen hiding a gun in his pocket thanks to his other
profession: the teacher is also a Tavares police officer.
An Orange County sheriff's report released Tuesday says Officer
Billy Harper was working the day before at Evans High when he
noticed one of his students had a bulge in his front pocket that
resembled a gun.
When class ended, the officer told a school resource deputy and went with him to find the teen.
Harper spotted 17-year-old Anthonique Pamphile and the deputy patted him down, finding a handgun in the teen's pocket.
Pamphile faces one count each of possession of a firearm on school grounds and possession of a firearm by a minor.
He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
