VIERA, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida woman who authorities say left her dog to die in a locked crate without food or water has been sentenced to eight months in jail.
Christine Abrams also was sentenced Thursday to one year of
probation, 80 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine.
The 30-year-old Abrams will not be allowed to keep any animals as pets
during her probation.
Prosecutors say she left her 2-year-old German shepherd, Ella, locked in a crate for two months after she moved out of her Cocoa home to live with a new roommate.
Abrams waved her right to a trial and entered a plea of no contest.
Her lawyer, Andrew Stine, said his client was remorseful.
