REDINGTON SHORES, Fla. (AP) - The owner of a pier in west
Florida says he has renamed the structure to irritate city
Owner Tony Antonious says he renamed the Redington Long Pier the
Dubai Long Pier about a month ago. Antonious told the St.
Petersburg Times that he "told City Hall they are not honorable
enough to put their name on my pier."
Antonious complains that he spent $500,000 in legal fees and
repairs over the city's argument that the 1,021-foot-long, 46-year-old pier was unsafe.
The repairs were finished about a year ago and Antonious says he has been trying to get the land rezoned to build a condo building in the parking lot.
A judge ordered the pier closed about two years ago.
Antonious said he renamed the pier after Dubai because he visited the country several times and has had sales offers from people from Dubai.
