PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Florida's Charlie Crist is joining his fellow governors for a meeting with President-elect Barack Obama in Philadelphia.
The governors plan on Tuesday to press the incoming administration and Democratic-controlled Congress for as much as $136 billion worth of infrastructure projects and at least $40 billion to help pay for health care for the poor and disabled.
Obama has called for a $500 billion economic recovery bill to generate 2.5 million jobs during his first two years in office. The measure is virtually certain to contain help for states struggling with slumping revenues and difficult budget cuts as the recession deepens.
Crist plans to hold a news conference Tuesday morning about the meeting.
