The Panama City Police Department announces the arrest of Jerry Alvis, 52 years of age, of Panama City, Florida. Alvis is being charged with Attempted Murder and Retaliating against a Witness.
Alvis was arrested at his apartment, which is next door to the victim. Alvis after receiving his Miranda warning gave a full confession.
On November 13, he was arrested for battery. He allegedly grabbed the victim’s arm against her wishes and without her consent. He was transported to the Bay County Jail and released on a later date. Alvis was apparently upset with the victim for pressing charges against him, which resulted in him attacking the victim on this date.
At approximately 5:00pm Tuesday, Alvis waited on the victim to arrive home at which time he attacked her with a claw hammer. Alvis stated his intent was to kill the victim because she was getting him kicked out of his apartment.
The victim suffered severe injuries to her head, face, both arms and both hands. She is presently listed in critical condition and will require surgery. Alvis was taken to CCA and will be 1st appeared before a local judge on 11-26-2008.
