Suspect Beats Officer With Tree Limb

The Tallahassee Police Department says
a 65-year-old man has been arrested after hitting an officer with a
tree branch.

Police spokesman David McCranie said Harold Rivers is facing
charges of aggravated battery on an officer and resisting arrest
with violence.

McCranie said Rivers grabbed the 3-foot-long branch early
Thursday and raised it at Officer David Covan.
Covan unsuccessfully tried to subdue Rivers with a Taser, and
Rivers then repeatedly hit Covan with the branch. The officer, who
sustained minor injuries in the attack, then used his baton to
control Rivers.

Rivers was treated for minor injuries at a hospital, then taken
to jail.
