PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) - Now that election season is over, groups
in Brevard County are recycling the countless campaign signs that
have dotted yards and roadways in recent months.

The plastic components will be used to make park benches and the
wood will be used in projects by Keep Brevard Beautiful.

According to Mike Hazlett, a member of the group and president of a
local recycling company, who came up with the idea.

He wanted to keep the signs from ending up in landfills.

By Thursday, American Recycled Plastic had received about 1,000
signs, and calls from groups wanting to bring in more.

The county's Solid Waste Management division has also contacted campaigns about the recycling effort.

Hazlett says next election season, he'd like to expand the
program statewide.
