On Wednesday November 5, 2008 around 10:22pm the Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a call of domestic violence at a residence on West Point Washington Road in the Santa Rosa Beach area.
The female that called in advised that the male subject involved had left on a white pick up truck. While deputies responded to the residence another deputy spotted the vehicle on West Point Washington Road.
The deputy tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver drove into the driveway of the residence. While the driver was still in the vehicle deputies noticed that the driver was holding a handgun with the barrel of the gun aimed under his chin.
As the driver got out of his vehicle he kept the gun aimed under his chin and would not put the gun down. The deputies tried to talk the subject into dropping the gun and talking to them; instead he kept walking toward the residence with the gun aimed under his chin and finally went inside.
During this time, the female and her daughter came out the back door and were taken to a safe spot away from the residence.
In a few minutes the male came back out onto the front porch with an AK-47 pointing it at the deputies. It was at this point when the subject was shot by one of the deputies.
Due to an officer being involved in the shooting, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was called in to investigate the shooting.
The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. At this time the investigation is ongoing.
