Florida's largest electric utility is laying off about 75 employees.
Florida Power & Light Co. spokeswoman Sharon Bennett said the company is making every effort to cut costs amid financial crisis.
Bennett said FPL is also freezing new hires for open positions, eliminating consultants and reducing travel and entertainment-related expenses.
The company emphasized Tuesday the job cuts won't jeopardize safety or reliability.
FPL serves 4.5 million Florida customers in 35 counties, and has about 10,600 employees.
